Transient Electric Field

Computes the electric field and current distribution produced by arbitrary-waveform, time-varying voltage or current pulses applied to conductors and dielectrics.

About This Module

The Transient Electric Field module can be used to study the field distribution inside an object subjected to a pulsed source, such as overvoltage caused by a lightning strike. It can also be used to design modern insulation structures that include nonlinear grading elements, varistor overvoltage protection, and similar materials such as zinc-oxide varistors and semiconducting ceramics.
