QuickField and its parametric tool LabelMover offer not only a graphical user interface but also an application programming interface (API) that lets other programs access their internal functionality. Making use of this requires choosing a development environment. A fairly wide range of compatible systems are supported, from powerful commercial packages — MATLAB, Microsoft Visual Studio (Visual Basic, Visual C#, Visual J# or Visual C++ under the .NET Framework), Microsoft Office (the VBA development environment) — to the free LibreOffice (a fork of the OpenOffice project) and the Tcl/Tk scripting system.
Microsoft VBScript (JScript) and batch file techniques can also be considered free alternatives, since they ship with every Windows installation. The choice of development environment mainly comes down to personal preference and tool availability.
